Republican Sen. Mark Johnson met with the rest of the Minnesota Legislature for the beginning of the 2020 legislative session on Feb.11, stating that the goal of the Senate Republicans is a simple one.

Reiterating that Republicans on the Senate have kept their promises to the citizens of Minnesota, he went into further detail about what they look to accomplish this legislative year, according to the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus.

“Senate Republicans have a simple goal this session – continue to work to improve the lives of Minnesotans and their families,” Johnson said. “Over the last three years, we have delivered on our promise to help Minnesotans by passing emergency health care premium relief, significant tax reform and securing long-term funding for roads and bridges.”

He said this year, the Senate will deliver more promises with additional tax reform, lowering health care costs, additional funding for transportation and the elimination of government waste and fraud.

In January, the Senate Republicans released what is known as the Vision 2020 agenda. This agenda provides an overview of the priorities of the Senate’s Republican majority that includes matters such as a supplemental budget, a capital investment bill and tax relief.

They will also review measures that will address healthcare costs, public safety, transportation and economic developments that will benefit public infrastructure and job creation. These are topics the Senate majority wants to address before the May 18 end of the legislation session.
