State Sen. Mark Johnson (R-East Grand Forks) disapproves of a lawsuit to overturn laws protecting the rights of the unborn, according to a Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus news release.
Johnson said in the news release that he agreed with the decision to intervene in the lawsuit to ensure that the laws are protected.
“Sanctity of life is not just a slogan," Johnson said in the news release. "It’s something I believe and fight to defend. The purpose of this suit is to ensure our law is rigorously defended."
Johnson said that he hoped Attorney General Keith Ellison would continue to protect the state's unborn children despite his personal beliefs, but, instead, Johnson is worried he will attempt to advance his party's objective.
"This behavior sets a dangerous precedent and threatens the law-making process in our state," Johnson said in the news release. "Our decision to join the lawsuit ensures that our laws are respected and defended. We are fighting with our full power to protect the rights of the unborn."
