If approved by the Crookston City Council, the new Crookston Visitors Bureau will soon be able to have a say in how lodging tax revenue is spent.
The Bureau is affiliating itself with the City of Crookston to quicken the process of becoming an official agency. Right now they are simply an informal group of stakeholders, according to the Crookston Times.
Last week, the council's Ways and Means Committee approved a list of potential Bureau Board of Directors for Mayor Dale Stainbrook. The purpose of the board is to give hotel and motel owners more say in how lodging tax revenue is invested while also finding a way to promote local lodging facilities during local events. Once the council approves the board, they can begin moving forward.
Laurie Stahlecker, Crookston Inn & Convention Center general manager/owner, currently serves as the group's informal leader. The new board will consist of five voting members, seven non-voting/ex-officio members and two city council members.
