Bemidji State University student worker Thomas Strand donates $391 to Bernard Sanders' campaign

Thomas Strand, a student worker at Bemidji State University, donated $391 to Democratic Party candidate Bernard Sanders, according to the Federal Election Commission.

According to records, there have been $1,612 in campaign contributions made by individuals affiliated with Bemidji State University as of November 3. Approximately 72.5 percent, or $1,168, of these contributions were made to Democratic Party candidates and committees.

Roger Paskvan's contribution of $444 to Republican Party Dan Sullivan was the largest contribution made by someone affiliated with Bemidji State University since January 1, 2019.

According to an Inside Higher Ed analysis of federal elections data, individuals that were affiliated with colleges and universities have donated five times more money to Joe Biden than to President Trump. A study by Pew Research in 2017 found that 58 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents thought colleges and universities have a negative impact on the way things are going in this country.
