City of East Grand Forks: Severe Weather Awareness April 5th - Severe Weather, Lightning, & Hail

City of East Grand Forks issued the following announcement on April 5.

Thunderstorms affect relatively small areas compared to other storms. Severe thunderstorms can produce large hail and/or winds of at least 58 miles per hour (mph) with some wind gusts exceeding 100 mph.

Hail is a product of some thunderstorms, it causes nearly $1 billion in damages every year, and varies in size.  NWS JetStream - Thunderstorm Hazards: Hail (weather.gov) 

Every thunderstorm produces lightning.  No place outside is safe when thunderstorms are in the area, if you hear thunder, lightning is close enough to strike.  For more safety tips about lightning please use the link to the Storms, Hail, & Lightning Information page.
