Join the Detroit Lakes Public Library for a free presentation featuring historical World War II Author Paul Sailer on Wednesday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m.

In 2012, Sailer was named Aviation Writer of the Year by the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame for The Oranges are Sweet: Major Don M. Beerbower and the 353rd Fighter Squadron – November 1942 to August 1944. His most recent book, I Had a Comrade: Stories About the Bravery, Comradeship, and Commitment of Individual Participants in the Second World War, includes ten compelling stories about how ordinary people deal with the trauma of war.

Paul Sailer has been interested in WWII aviation history since childhood. He received a B.S. degree in Social Studies (emphasis American History) from Moorhead State College in 1969, and a pilot’s rating from the U.S. Army’s Advanced Flight School at Fort Rucker, Alabama, in 1970. He flew UH-1 Huey and OH-58 Kiowa helicopters with the 20th Engineer Brigade in Vietnam in 1970 and 1971. He and his wife, Dianna, live on a tree farm in Wadena County.
Books will be available for sale. $5 per book sold during this event will be donated to the library.
