Action4Liberty's president, Jake Duesenberg, doesn't understand why Democrats are supporting Gov. Tim Walz while he has unilaterally ruled over the state and not given the legislature any say, according to his blog post on the website.
"The idea that the Democrat Party supports democracy at this point is a far stretch," Duesenberg wrote. "Which is bizarre considering the Party's name comes from the word: democratic. But the party's elite and grassroots appear unified that Gov. Walz should have the unilateral power to force people to stay in their homes and businesses to close their doors. All of this while the legislative branch is still in session."
Duesenberg wrote that after coming across a petition by the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party urging everyone to stand with the governor, he was concerned, as the petition states that the party is "thankful for everything he's doing to protect Minnesotans," which he disagrees with.
Duesenberg questioned if the party was thankful for the fact that Walz has taken over the legislative process and "trampled on our Bill of Rights" during his stay-at-home orders.
"If democracy is a form of government where the power is held by the people (then) what the DFL is promoting is the antithesis of democracy," Duesenberg wrote. "'The People' aren't able to weigh in on these matters. We're told to comply with (Walz's) unilateral orders or face penalty or jail time."
Duesenberg wrote that the state's democratic form of government is a Republic with separations of powers among the three branches and that those separations mean that the legislature is the law-making branch. He is concerned because the legislature is meeting on an irregular basis and questioned with the party has not demanded the legislature meet to write laws that can later be signed by Walz.
"How long will this form of government they support last?" Duesenberg questioned. "Are we to believe that Gov. Walz is just going to gladly relinquish his powers after months of operating in this fashion?"
