One thing was evident during last week’s Thief River Falls City Council meeting: With the exception of one council member, they did not want to deal with a residence controversy involving one of the councilors.
During the meeting, council member Rachel Prudhomme requested a resolution declaring the Ward 2 seat vacant even though it is being occupied by councilor Don Sollom.
"We have someone representing Ward 2 living in Ward 5,” Prudhomme said, who represents the latter Ward 5, according to Thief River Falls Times.
When Prudhomme made the motion, it was met with crickets from the other council members. The motion died for a lack of a second.
The controversy involves Sollom, who recently purchased property in Ward 5. When the question about his residence was raised, the newspaper reported that Sollom said he lives four nights a week in Ward 2 and goes on a “vacation” three nights a week at the Fern Road property.
At the council meeting last week, Sollom did not respond to Prudhomme’s questions about his living arrangements.
After her motion died, the council took up more business but not before Prudhomme asked, “So no one really wants to deal with this?”
